Shel NeufeldShel Neufeld is a photographer who has a passion for the outdoors. A veteran of numerous exploratory hiking and mountaineering expeditions, some as long as 32 days, Shel has artistically interpreted landscapes that most will never see in person. Some of his expeditions are ventures to climb mountains for the first time in modern history. His colour photography is a unique interpretation of isolated wilderness areas and local West Coast scenery, which combine to evoke emotion and inspire.

Shel worked with a program called the Uts'am Witness Project from 1998-2006, a cross-cultural program linking the public with Squamish Nation cultural and political issues and the natural, wild landscape. Deeply moved by his experiences with the Witness Project, he became inspired to photograph the natural world and to share these images with others.

Shel utilizes a 35mm Nikon camera, and slide transparency film, a combination which allows him to convey the remarkable clarity, depth and colour of the natural world.

"I see art wherever I walk in the natural world. It is thrilling to be able to bring this art back into our human created world which has so often disconnected us from the land."
